A Fathomless Chaos of Eternal Night

So this was an indie comic book script I wrote back in 2011 for a series called (in)sanity. Not much work was done, my artist and co-writer did like 4-6 pages of art for it I believe. Our idea was basically that the stories that H.P. Lovecraft wrote were based on his real life experiences. A fun, though not necessarily an original idea. I wrote this script with only a basic idea of how comic books were written. I think I used a Kevin Smith comic script as a template. Turned it in and my co-writer basically ghosted me. I didn't think it was that bad lol. I feel like I'm a much better writer now, but for 28 year old me, I thought it was pretty decent. I've checked around, from what I can tell he's never done anything with it and I certainly don't want to impinge on any of his ideas, so I decided to share it as a bit of nostalgia! “A Fathomless Chaos of Eternal Night" Page One - Four panels.  CAPTION: Arkham Sanitarium, 1929 Panel One We have returned to the off...

Book Review: The Outsider (2018) - Stephen King

When King hits, man he really hits. This is my favorite King novel since 2011's 11/22/63. Aside from one minor gripe, a sort of a trope of a character that King uses, I really enjoyed this. I loved how it starts off with a slow, almost methodical investigation into a crime and just expands from there. The creepy parts are super creepy, the mystery is interesting and engaging. All of the characters are really great, he just hit this one out of the park. 5/5

Book Review: Dolores Claiborne (1992) - Stephen King

Didn't do much for me. Dolores does not speak like a person from that region, she speaks like an author from that region. She's too descriptive about things she has no reason to describe. It's odd there's no reply from the people that Dolores is confessing to. Makes no sense other than it being a book, if it was a recording or a live confession there should be some sort of reply. It's fine, just sort of predictable and inconsequential.  3/5

Book Review: Later (2021) - Stephen King

So I found this one to be just okay. I don't think it necessarily ever lives up to it's premise, nor surpass a certain movie that it is pretty directly comparable to. This is a really tough book to review without giving any spoilers, needless to say it references other Stephen King works in two different ways. It's all pretty well worn territory for King though, doesn't bring much new to the table. So where I think it was successful, it has a first person narrative and did a decent job. I do think the narrator sounds older than the 22 years he's supposed to be. I do think King could use an editor. I know he has one, of course, but I feel like his books aren't edited beyond typos and grammatical errors, there's a lot of erroneous information given by the protagonist here. That said, the novel is fine and it's short enough to recommend a read if you're a Stephen King fan!

Book Review: If It Bleeds (2020) - Stephen King

Caveat - King is one of my two favorite authors. That said, he's very prolific and with that comes for me, not every story is a hit. He's always a great writer, but it's okay to me that sometimes novels just don't connect with me. This was one of them that didn't. The titled story definitely carries a lot of the weight of this novella collection. The rest of the stories didn't really do anything for me. Mr. Harrigan's Phone - 2/5 Pretty good premise, but in King fashion, falls apart in the last act. Was at it's best when he was doing the Coming of Age thing, no one is better at that than him. The junior high stuff is great, the rest of the story is so-so, predictable. All amounts to nothing. Sometimes dehd is beddah. The Life of Chuck - 1/5 Feels like someone trying to capture what The Stand was so successful at, the fall of modern civilization and whiffing badly. Some characters are of no real consequence. King's politics lead the story, instead o...
