Dark Souls III is Thinking of Ending Things

 


This isn't my video or anything, but I found this bouncing around reddit the other day and thought this was a great look into Dark Souls III. I played through the Souls series in 2019 back-to-back-to-back, which was probably a mistake, but I hold this high as one of the better achievements I've made in gaming. Because of this, by the time I played through 3, in spite of it looking the best (interested in playing on my Series X now, especially to see if it runs better) of the the trilogy, I was ready to move on. Not to mention, this was all in the middle of losing my Dad and grandmother (and on the way to losing my mother in law and the rest of what 2020 was). Anyway, this video really made me want to revisit the series, which I sort of began the other day, starting Dark Souls 1 again. So many games to play, I probably won't commit to this (and I'm salty from making it all the way to the Taurus demon, suddenly forgetting the controls and dying) but man, do I love this series.

Also really love Charlie Kaufman's work, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of my favorite movies, Adaptation is great and I even like Anomalisa, who some seem to be lukewarm on. This really, really made me want to watch I'm Thinking of Ending things, will probably get to that soon!

As I speak, I've written through the sixth story in the series, feature complete and I'm fairly happy with where the story is at and where it is headed. Book Review: Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke (2021) - Eric LaRocca

I said on twitter and I'll say it here, I think Eric LaRocca is a welcome, talented addition to the horror indie scene and I can't wait to see what is next.  So "Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke" is a pretty evocative title to me. It brings together many images in my head and I'll say that the actual novella slightly lives up to these images. A similar title and I've seen other people make this comparison, that evokes similar feelings and images for me is "I'm Thinking of Ending Things", which is on my To-Read docket and will be done fairly soon. As for THGWSWLS it takes place in the year 2000, at the dawn of the internet age. At the heart of the novel are two LBTQ lesbian characters, Agnes and Zoe and their interactions an LBGT message board and then subsequently a chat program similar to AOL Instant Messenger or Yahoo Messenger, though I don't think it's ever specified which, could be wrong on that. Book Review: If It Bleeds (2020) - Stephen King

  Caveat - King is one of my two favorite authors. That said, he's very prolific and with that comes for me, not every story is a hit. He's always a great writer, but it's okay to me that sometimes novels just don't connect with me. This was one of them that didn't. The titled story definitely carries a lot of the weight of this novella collection. The rest of the stories didn't really do anything for me. Mr. Harrigan's Phone - 2/5 Pretty good premise, but in King fashion, falls apart in the last act. Was at it's best when he was doing the Coming of Age thing, no one is better at that than him. The junior high stuff is great, the rest of the story is so-so, predictable. All amounts to nothing. Sometimes dehd is beddah. The Life of Chuck - 1/5 Feels like someone trying to capture what The Stand was so successful at, the fall of modern civilization and whiffing badly. Some characters are of no real consequence.
